Stage 2 of the Wambo Wind Farm – located south-west of Kingaroy – was announced this week, doubling the size of the project to 83 wind turbines.
The wind farm is a joint venture between Cubico and Stanwell Corporation.
Stanwell will own 50 per cent of the energy produced and will buy the rest from Cubico under a 15-year agreement.
Construction has begun on Stage 1, which consists of 42 turbines which the companies say will generate 252MW of electricity.
Commercial operation of Stage 1 is due to begin in 2025.
Stage 2 will add another 41 turbines, increasing the total output to an estimated 506MW by 2026.
The announcement of Stage 2 was accompanied by the news that the Wambo Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, available for projects in the local area, has also been doubled to $200,000 per year.
