Scorpions’ Josie Black took three wickets and batted determinedly to help Nanango to their last win for the season

The South Burnett Senior Cricket competition has come to the sharp end of the season with two semi-finals to be played this weekend.

At the end of the 14 rounds, Tingoora Vikings were undefeated on the top of the ladder with 52 points from 12 wins and no losses (there were no results in two rounds).

Then followed Murgon Diggers (41 points), Kingaroy Blue (39), Wooroolin Warriors (36), Nanango Scorpions (35), Wondai Wolves (29), Kingaroy Orange (29) and Tingoora Huntsmen (14).

This weekend will feature the Grand Final qualifying clash between ladder leaders Tingoora Vikings and Murgon Diggers at Tingoora Sportsground. The winner will go straight through to the Grand Final on March 9.

The loser will play next week the winner of Saturday’s other semi-final – at Taabinga State School between Kingaroy Services Blue and Wooroolin Warriors – to determine the second Grand Final position.

SB Senior Cricket 

Another four … opener Thomas Town top-scored for Nanango with 79 runs off 82 balls

Nanango Scorpions  bowed out of the 2023-24 competition on Saturday but they finished the season with a smile, securing a nail-biting victory over third-placed Kingaroy Services Blue at Taabinga State School oval.

Blues won the toss and elected to bat.

They were all out for 217 in the 40th over after Scorpions’ bowler Josephine Black ripped through the tail, taking 3/7 off just 1.1 overs and just missing out on a hat trick!

Timothy Blanch top-scored for Kingaroy with 77 runs while Josh Fearby added a valuable 41.

Nicholas Scherger also took three wickets for Nanango, finishing with 3/37 off seven.

In reply, Thomas and Peter Town opened the batting for Nanango.

Peter fell first, bowled by Thomas Hoare for just eight runs in the fifth over.

However, Thomas Town was finding his form at the other end, hitting 79 runs before he was caught LBW by Igor Shakhanov.

Craig Paterson (36) and Patrick McCallum (24) added to the Nanango total.

Scorpions finally inched past the Kingaroy total in the last over with just three balls left and one wicket in hand (9/218).

Abby Burrows (7 not out) and Josie Black (2 not out) held on to give Nanango the victory.

Thomas Hoare (3/30 off five overs) and Lachlan Watson (2/25 off eight) were the best of the Kingaroy bowlers.

Gympie A Grade

Day 2 of Round 4 of the Gympie A Grade Two-Day competition was played last Saturday.

Both matches ended in a draw.

Murgon Crusaders were 159 all out against Gympie Harlequins (7/114) at Murgon Sportsground.

No play occurred on Day 2 of the Wooroolin Warriors v Gympie Colts match at  Jack Ison Oval in Gympie.

NB. The Grand Final of the One-Day competition, between Wooroolin Warriors and Gympie Harlequins, is scheduled to be played in Gympie on March 3.
