1000 cattle were sold at the Murgon combined agents sale on January 23 with all descriptions selling to dearer rates.
Values for lesser quality cattle remained firm on the last sale.
Cattle for the sale were drawn from Kandanga, Kilkivan, Mt Perry, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Boondooma, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy and the Murgon district.
Sale results:
- Heavy Bulls sold to $3.04/kg and $2870
- Cows over 500kg sold to $2.68/kg and $1610 for an average of $2.48/kg
- Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.62/kg for $1290, up 10 to 15 cents
- Cows under 400kg also improved, selling to $2.18/kg
- Export heifers sold to $2.97/kg for $1320
- Charbray steers from Manyung sold to $3.78/kg for $1550
- Red Brangus steers from Kandanga sold for $1536 at $3.69/kg
- Local 453kg Charolais cross steers sold for $3.67/kg, returning $1665
- A line of 50 356kg Santa steers ex Manumbar sold for an average of $3.80/kg and $1350, topping at $3.88/kg and $1450
- 354 kg Santa steers from Wooroonden sold for $3.87/kg at $1370
- 305kg Santa steers from Nanango sold for $1250 at $4.10/kg
- A line of 30 303kg Santa steers from Gayndah sold for $1200 at $3.95/kg
- 300kg Droughtmaster cross steers from Johnstown sold for $1220 at $4.05/kg
- 246kg Santa steers from Nanango sold for $4.40/kg and $1085
- Two pens of Braford weaner steers from Mt Perry sold for $4.32/kg to return $1184 and 1156
- Local Droughtmaster cross weaner steers sold for $4.22/kg and $970
- Lighr Droughtmaster cross steers from Crownthorpe sold for $756 at $4.42/kg
- A line of 40 394kg Charbray heifers from Mt Perry sold for $3.10/kg and $1220
- Two pens of Santa heifers from Gayndah sold to $3.20/kg for $1095 and $958
- 290kg Droughtmaster cross heifers from Proston sold for $930 at $3.20/kg
- Santa weaner heifers from Barambah sold for $3.50/kg to return $806
- Droughtmaster weaner heifers from Stonelands sold for $3.22/kg, returning $814
- Light Droughtmaster weaner heifers sold for $520 at $3.22/kg
- A small number of Cows & calves sold to $1425
