Another would-be candidate has pulled out of the upcoming South Burnett council elections.

Ballogie resident Les Prickett announced his candidature for Division 6 in February last year, and since then has been campaigning using the Liberal Democratic Party slogans “Freedom Matters” and “Sensible Alternative”.

However, on Tuesday he posted his decision to withdraw on social media:

“I would like to thank the people of Div 6 for their support. I have been given the position as First Officer in the Rural Fire Service and am no longer able to give the council position 100% which the people of the South Burnett deserve.

“I am officially withdrawing my nomination and placing my support behind Ros Heit for Div 6. Ros has passion, experience and the people of Div 6 best interest at hart (sic). I also fully support Kath Duff for Mayor, these two wonderful ladies are not only an inspiration but they will put the people of the South Burnett first.”

Division 6 is currently held by Cr Scott Henschen.

Former Division 6 councillor Ros Heit recently announced her intention to recontest the position.

Mr Prickett is the second would-be councillor to withdraw from the election race.

In December, Kingaroy resident Rhonda Trivett said she would no longer be contesting the mayoral role.
