Agents yarded 580 in Murgon for the first sale of 2024 on Tuersday, January 9.
Values for export cattle as well as suitable feeders improved noticeably, and lighter cattle aslo showed improvement depending on their quality.
Cattle for the sale were drawn from Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Woodford, Kilcoy and the South Burnett.
Sale results:
- Heavy Bulls sold to $2.66/kg and $1850
- Cows over 500kg sold to $2.48/kg and $1440 for an average of $2.39/kg
- Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.38/kg for $1130, up 10 cents on the last sale
- Few Cows under 400kg were yarded, selling to $1.88/kg
- Export heifers sold to $2.80/kg for $1540 and $1080
- 407kg Steers from Mundubbera sold to $3.38/kg for $1378
- Local 480kg Charolais cross steers sold for $1580 at $3.30/kg
- Two pens of Speckled Park cross steers from Durong weighing 366kg and 352kg sold for $3.77/kg, returning $1382 and $1328 respectively
- 300kg Santa cross steers from Windera sold for $3.90/kg and $1175
- Local 322kg Droughtmaster steers sold for $3.66/kg and $1181
- Gelbvieh/Brahman cross weaner steers from Mundubbera sold for $4.16/kg and returned $1105
- Droughtmaster cross weaner steers from Gundiah sold for $762 at $3.80/kg
- Santa weaner steers from Mundubbera sold for $3.68/kg for $948
- Light Charbray weaner steers from Wondai sold to $3.36/kg and $524
- Quality 360kg Santa heifers from Mundubbera sold to $4.14/kg for $1493
- A second pen sold to $3.80/kg and $1323
- 298kg Gelbvieh cross Heifers from Mundubbera sold for $2.98/kg and returned $889
- Local 312kg Santa cross heifers sold for $901 at $2.88/kg
- 273kg Santa heifers from Mundubbera sold for $3.02/kg for $827
- Light Droughtmaster cross heifers from Woodford sold for $568 at $2.88/kg
- Brahman cross Cows & Calves sold to $1225
