Nanango singer Paul Ricketts has been named the winner of the inaugural Thornton Young Award which recognises new talent in Australian bush/heritage music.

The award will be presented to Paul during the Back to the Bush concert that will be held in Bicentennial Park at the Tamworth Country Music Festival on January 24.

As part of the award package, Paul will have the opportunity to record his new single at the LWM recording studio, courtesy of Lindsay Waddington Music, with backing musicians, mastering, production, artwork and a music video.

He will also receive a distribution package for the single courtesy of Blue Shamrock Music and LWM Studio, and a trophy from the Country Music Association of Australia.

Two other South Burnett artists will also be in the spotlight at Tamworth, named as finalists in Golden Guitar categories that will be presented on January 27.

“Walkabout Waters”, recorded by Dean Perrett, is a finalist in the Bush Ballad of the Year award.

Tom Curtain’s album, “Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us”, is in the running for Traditional Country Album of the Year.
