Toowoomba Regional Council’s Local Disaster Management Group has moved to “stand-up” status following the issuing of a “leave immediately” bushfire warning for Wutul and East Cooyar.

Mayor Geoff McDonald said residents were being asked to evacuate to family and friends’ homes in the first instance.

“Properties between New England Highway and East Cooyar Road, including Fitzgerald Road, Dukes Road, Saads Road and Garskes Road are in the warning area,” Mayor McDonald said.

“The fire is expected to impact East Cooyar Road and residents are being asked to enact their bushfire survival plan and leave immediately.

“QFES are telling residents to avoid driving on Dukes Road and drive with caution on the New England Highway.

“Go to a place away from the emergency area, with family and friends in the first instance.

“If residents do not have another option, they are to head north towards Yarraman and call TRC on 13-18-72 to register.

“They will then be directed to where temporary accommodation is arranged.”
