With rugby league drawing to a close, it must be time for cricket! Round 1 of the 2023-24 Lord Taverners Under 17 competition will be played on Sunday at Maryborough with a number of South Burnett players selected in the Wide Bay squad.

The full team is:

Wide Bay will be taking on Qld University, with the game due to start at 9:30am.

South Burnett cricketers also feature in the Grand Final of the Gympie Regional Cricket Association’s Bendigo Bank Big Bash which will played on Friday night from 6:30pm at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie.

Through to the final after hectic 10 rounds and a qualifying final are the Carneys Feed Store Cattledogs and the Carlton Hill Dental Kings.

South Burnett players feature in both teams:

Cattledogs: Ashley Sippel, Cameron Moodie, Harry Sippel, Brenton Polzin, Mason McGlone, Nick Sanewski, Riley Sippel, Tom Carney, Zak Green, Jayden Santacaterina, Blaine Schloss, Ben Baker, James Loose and Kyron Tunstall.

Kings: Jeremy Schultz, Joel Owen, Andy Batten, Michael Wostear, Hayden Wieck, Max Carlton, Luke McCully, Tyler Heness, Nick Burford, Solomon Bembrick, Lovedeep Singh and Brodie Loveridge.

The Goodchild Intercity T20 competition will also be contested at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie on Saturday:

  • 8:00am – Gympie v Fraser Coast
  • 11:00am – Fraser Coast v South Burnett
  • 2:00pm – Gympie v South Burnett

Gympie are the current champions and are keen to defend their crown.
