If you thought there wasn’t enough to do over the past few weeks in the South Burnett … there’s another bumper weekend of events coming up!

Recently residents have enjoyed BaconFest in Kingaroy, PLAYfest in Nanango, a big round of sports finals plus, of course, the Wondai Show.

  • This weekend’s activities begin with country rocker Jade Hurley putting on a special show from 7:30pm on Thursday at the Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster.

The music continues at the Nanango Showgrounds all weekend until noon on Sunday, with a canteen and bar operating every day. This event is always huge, and the showgrounds are already packed with campervans and caravans.

  • Nanango Race Club is hosting its Spring thoroughbred race meeting at the Lee Park Racecourse on Saturday, with five races on the card and FREE entry.

Racing starts at 1:30pm.

  • Down in Blackbutt, it’s the annual Blackbutt Avocado Festival, which features a Grand Parade at 1:00pm plus heaps of market stalls, avocado-themed fun and games, live music on two stages, cooking demonstrations, a parachute drop competition and helicopter rides.

There will also be woodchopping and post-ripping competitions and roving entertainment. The festival gets under way at 8:00am with live music from 9:00am.

  • For younger folk (aged 12-24),  CTC Youth are putting on a free “Retro Glow Skate Party” from 5:30pm on Thursday at The Hub skate rink in George Street, Nanango.

Roller skates, food and a drink will be provided as well as three tokens to use in the arcade.

  • Not to be forgotten, Kumbia has its regular markets on Saturday from 7:00am until noon at the Memorial Hall.

There will be lots of stalls to explore plus coffee and cake to enjoy and a sausage sizzle.

  • Wooroolin’s regular markets, which seem to be getting bigger every month, will also be in action from 6:00am to noon on Saturday.

The markets are held in the car park opposite the Wooroolin Memorial Hall.

  • On Sunday morning, the inaugural Double Dingo Duathlon will be held on the South Burnett Rail Trail, starting and finishing at Wondai.

Registrations have now closed for the event but spectators are invited to watch the runners and cyclists along the route.

  • On Sunday afternoon, the Grand Finals of Football South Burnett’s Men’s and Women’s senior soccer competitions will get under way.

Nanango will play Kingaroy Wests in the Women’s Grand Final from 3:00pmm while Kingaroy Islanders will face Kingaroy Easts in the Men’s Grand Final from 5:00pm.

  • Round 2 of the South Burnett Regional Council-sponsored “Festival of the Dams” fishing competition will be held at Boondooma Dam on Saturday and Sunday.

Registrations to take part close at 7:00am on Saturday.
