A 42-year-old Wondai man has been charged after police spotted him riding down a street in Wondai with allegedly stolen goods balanced on the handles of a pushbike.

A spokesperson said police conducting patrols in Haly Street spotted the man riding a pushbike in the early hours of Monday.

Police became suspicious and approached the man, whom they will allege had broken into a nearby business.

The man is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on September 19 charged with breaking into a premises and committing an indictable offence, and possessing a drug utensil.

Murgon police are investigating a break-in which occurred at the Cherbourg Sports Complex last week.

At some time between 5:30pm on August 21 and 9:30am on August 22,  unknown offenders smashed a window to gain entry.

Once inside, they trashed the facility and attempted to gain entry to a vehicle.

Police are investigating the attempted theft of a vehicle from an address in Nutt Street, Murgon.

It is alleged that unknown offenders gained entry to the unlocked vehicle, which was parked in a carport, at some time between 1:00pm on August 22 and noon on August 23.

The would-be thieves allegedly tampered with the ignition but were unable to start the vehicle.

They then fled from the premises.
