South Burnett Toastmasters hosted Round 1 of their annual club speech contests at Kingaroy last Thursday night.

Trevor Stead took out the Humorous contest with his prepared speech, which had to be between five and seven minutes long.

Marietta Wetzig was placed first in the Table Topics contest, which consists of a two-minute impromptu speech on a topic competitors are given just beforehand.

Round 2 of the contests – International and Evaluation – will be held on August 17.

The four winners from the two rounds will then compete at the Toastmasters Area competition, which will be hosted by the South Burnett Toastmasters at Wondai on October 14.

South Burnett president Abigail Andersson said the Toastmasters club meets fortnightly in the Anzac Room at Kingaroy RSL Club.

New members are always welcome.

“We invite you to come and watch the presentations next Thursday with a prompt start at 7:00pm,” she said.
