Kumbia State School P&C’s major annual fundraiser is always a little bit crazy … and Saturday night was no different!

The Memorial Hall was packed to the rafters for the annual Brain Drain trivia night, which by our reckoning is the 28th year the event has been held.

The theme for 2023 was “Rock’n’Roll” so colourful costumes – and even more colourful team names – abounded.

For example, there were “Geriatric and the Pacemakers”, the “Nacho Average Team” and “Old Farts and Sweet Tarts”.

P&C president Jess Simpkins said the event had gone off “really, really well” with 24 teams taking part.

“We are extremely happy with how it all went,” Jess said on Monday.

“Over $5000 (was raised) but final calculations are still being made.

“Thank you to our generous sponsors and teams!”

The overall competition winners were “The Frankie J. Holdens” followed by “The Red Hot Trivia Peppers” and “All Rock No Roll”.

The “Village Idiot People” won the prize for the Best Dressed team.

The evening was compered by Dean Cullen, from Maidenwell, and JC Catering (Judy Crawford and her team) kept the food flowing all night.

They may have only barely recovered from the weekend, but the P&C volunteers have already started planning for next year’s event, which will be held on August 3, 2024.
