Agents yarded 640 head at Murgon’s fortnightly Fat and Store Sale last Tuesday (July 18).
The market for steers saw an increase with weaners, feeders and heifers all performing well.
However, the market for all other descriptions remained fairly flat.
Sale results:
- A large yarding of Fat Cows saw a top of $2.23/kg, returning $1509
- Store Cows were on the cheaper side and few of quality to quote but returned a top of $500
- Heavy Bulls averaged $2.14/kg to top at $2.40/kg, returning $1932
- Weaner Steers sold to $3.36c/kg and $986
- Feeder Steers saw a top of $3.38/kg and an average of $3.13/kg, which returned $1300 to $1500
- Weaner Heifers toped at $2.72/kg to return $850
- Feeder Heifers topped at $2.66/kg, returning $1200

Coolabunia’s Fat and Store Sale, which was held two days later, drew a yarding of 515.
Sale results:
- A small yarding of export cattle and heavy bulls made out to $2.02/kg and returned $1668
- A handful of fat cows averaged $1.65/kg, topping at $2.07/kg to return $1125
- Weaner Steers up to 300kg sold to $3.38/kg and averaged $2.98/kg to return $905
- Feeder Steers averaged $3.08/kg with a top of $3.30/kg, returning $1383
- Weaner Heifers made out to $2.60/kg, returning $770
- Feeder Heifers topped at $2.66/kg, returning $1034

The next Murgon Fat and Store sales will be held on Tuesday, August 1 and Tuesday, August 15.
The next Coolabunia Fat & Store sale will run on Thursday, August 14.
