FLASHBACK: The South Burnett Old Boys dominated the try scoring in last year’s Old Boys game in Kingaroy

The South Burnett Thrashers’ dream run in the 2023 Darling Downs Rugby Union competition came back down to earth last Saturday when the team came up against a determined Condamine Cods.

The Thrashers hit the road to take on the Cods at their “Fish Tank” home ground.

“They are very strong at home and this weekend was no different,” club president Jamie Shirlaw said.

“We came out strong, going into half-time 12-nil up.

“Jeffery Iro and Elaijah Kocovanua scored tries and Niko Petueli kicked a conversion

“The determined Cods came out almost like a different team in the second half, scoring three tries.

“Iona Varomusu kicked a field goal for our only points in the second half.

“The final score was 28 to 15 in the Cod’s favour.”

It’s going to be a big weekend of rugby union action coming up at home for the Thrashers.

Three games will be played at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday for Old Boys Day.

At 12:15pm, the Thrashers Old Boys will take on the Rocky Uni Old Boys.

At 1:30pm, the South Burnett Thrashers will play the Dalby Wheatmen in their regular B Grade fixtures game.

Then at 3:00pm, Dalby will play UniSQ in an A Grade game.

In the evening, current and former Thrashers will enjoy a reunion dinner at the Kingaroy Hotel from 7:00pm.
