John Holland has been awarded the tender to lead the design stage for the new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital, which will be built at the Baillie Henderson site.

Darling Downs Health Board chair Mike Horan AM said Friday’s announcement by the State Government was an important milestone.

“I’m delighted that John Holland has been engaged to help deliver the new Toowoomba Hospital which will increase our capacity to provide state-of-the-art health care to communities across the Darling Downs,” Mr Horan said.

“Our Executive will be working with the project team to ensure this facility is completed to a high standard and meets the need of the community, not just now but into the future.”

Darling Downs Health chief executive Annette Scott PSM said the Baillie Henderson campus was rapidly evolving into a modern healthcare hub.

“Currently, we are delivering a $20 million early works package in preparation for construction to start on the new hospital next year. These works are crucial in ensuring the site is ready for major works,” she said.

“Works are also progressing on the new Toowoomba Day Surgery which we expect to be completed in the first quarter of 2024.

“This is a once-in-a-generation project that we must get right, and I welcome today’s announcement and look forward to seeing this project progress.”

The current CBD Toowoomba Hospital site in Pechey Street will also be retained by the health service.
