Murgon Mustangs hosted a huge day of rugby league last weekend with their annual Domestic Violence Awareness Round.

There were stalls around Murgon Sportsground from various service agencies promoting the “no excuse for domestic abuse”  message.

Out on the paddock, round robin games were held simultaneously across seven fields from U6s through to U12s.

Special presentations were made after the round in each age group was completed.

There were also three A Grade games, featuring both men’s and women’s teams (results below).

The main game of the day was the A Grade local derby between the Murgon Mustangs and the Cherbourg Hornets.

Sadly, there was little joy for the hosts.

The Hornets ran out winners 72-16 after leading 30-12 at half-time.

Ex-Nanango Stag Drew Jackson added flair to the Cherbourg side, scoring one try himself and setting up several more.

George Fisher also starred, scoring four tries and kicking 12 goals.

Other Cherbourg try scorers were Norman Wragge (2), Michael Aubrey, Kane MacDonald, Isaiah Fisher, Kurt Fleming and Vincent Law.

Murgon try scorers were Steven Walsh, Jonathan Walsh and Lachlan Bligh. Jonathan Walsh kicked two goals.
