Fifteen local schools have been allocated “Go For Gold” grants from the State Government to improve sporting infrastructure.

The successful applicants were: Benarkin, Cherbourg, Cloyna, Crawford, Durong South, Goomeri, Kilkivan, Kumbia, Murgon and Nanango State schools; Murgon and Nanango State High schools; and St John’s Lutheran School (Kingaroy), St Joseph’s School (Murgon) and St Mary’s Catholic College (Kingaroy).

The 15 schools are among 680 from across Queensland which received grants under Round 1 of the program which aims to support students to achieve their sporting best ahead of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.

Eligible infrastructure includes:

  • Indoor or outdoor sports facilities
  • Multi-purpose courts
  • Athletics pitches or upgrades to ovals
  • Refurbishment of outdoor court surfaces
  • Investment in emerging sports

Applications are now open for Round 2 of the scheme:

  • Category 1 – up to and including $500,000;
  • Category 2 – over $500,000, up to and including $2.5 million; and
  • Category 3 – over $2.5 million, up to and including $5 million.

Category 1 applications will close at the end of Term 2, 2023. Categories 2 and 3 applications will close at the end of Term 3, 2023.
