Cherbourg Council’s award-winning Containers For Change depot in Kingaroy has opened a literal “Container” for Change in Yarraman.

The Kingaroy crew has been servicing Yarraman residents for some time with a pop-up recycling depot at the Yarraman Hotel-Motel in Margaret Street.

But now local residents have a full-size shipping container at the same site where they can leave their “Containers For Change” items conveniently, and still receive their 10c per item.

Kingaroy Containers For Change manager Christine Beresford told southburnett.com.au the shipping container had been dropped off this week.

Residents should place their recyclable items – but only those eligible for the 10c redemption! – inside a plastic bag which is clearly marked with their registered name, their Containers For Change ID membership number and their telephone number.

Christine suggested this tag be sticky-taped securely to the outside of the plastic bag.

The Kingaroy crew will come and empty the shipping container and take the plastuc bags back to the depot where they will be processed, and the money credited to the registered bank account.

Bulk loads from the Yarraman area should still be taken directly to the Kingaroy depot in Kingaroy Street.

Christine said the aim was to make recycling easier for residents who live further away from the Kingaroy and Cherbourg depots, ensuring they don’t miss out on their refunds.

The container refund point will also cut transport costs for the Kingaroy depot.

More shipping containers may be placed in future at other sites around the South Burnett.
