Wondai Regional Art Gallery burst into bloom last Thursday night for the annual Wondai Garden Expo- themed competition.

Artists were invited to submit works in any medium to fit “A Garden Theme”.

There was $1000 in prize money on offer over three categories, donated by the Wondai Garden Expo committee.

The judge for the competition was well-known Mundubbera artist Sue Lederhose who had the difficult task of judging watercolours, pastels and sculptures against each other.

She said the winning piece, a sculpture by Wondai artist Linda Staines, ‘Flora – Elegantly Recycled’, was an “absolutely beautiful artwork” that fitted the theme.

Linda was presented with a cheque for $500 by Wondai Garden Expo committee vice-president Peter Biltoft.

The annual Autumn Wondai Garden Expo is on this weekend at the Wondai Sportsground.

Peter said stalls had been booked right around the ring, including some from big nurseries.

He said the Wondai Garden Expo was now the third biggest in Queensland.

The Expo will run from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, and 8:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday.

Admission is $5.00 per day or $8.00 for a two-day pass. Children under 15 are free.

Guest speaker on Saturday is Brisbane-based horticulturalist Claire Bickle who has been featured on ABC Local Radio.

The Wondai Art Gallery exhibition will be on display until the end of the month. Entry to the gallery is free.
