Firefighters had to use a ladder to reach a seriously injured motorcycle rider down a 20 metre embankment at Cinnabar on Tuesday morning.

The man, aged in his 70s, was trapped by his leg under his crashed motorbike and sidecar.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the Kilkivan-Tansey Road at 10:11am.

Two off-duty firefighters, who were first on the scene, were later joined by five QFES units in the delicate operation to free the injured rider.

While QAS paramedics assisted, the man was placed into a basket and taken to a waiting LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter, which had landed nearby.

A QAS spokesperson said the man suffered leg injuries and broken bones and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.
