The South Burnett Cricket Association looked back on a very successful year at their end-of-season awards held on Saturday morning in Wondai.

The presentation of trophies was held just prior to the start of the Senior Grand Final, between Murgon Diggers and the Tingoora Vikings, played at Wondai Sportsground.

SBCA president Dan O’Connor said this season had been the first time South Burnett’s junior players had been a part of the Wide Bay Intercity Challenge, with teams in U12s, U14s and U16s facing teams from Bundaberg, Gympie and the Fraser Coast.

He said it had been a big effort by the young players as well as their families who had supported them during the six games.

“Player of the Year” and “Players’ Player” trophies were presented to cricketers in these three junior grades.

Dan said the U16s had been the most successful of the junior rep sides, making it through to the Grand Final against Bundaberg.

He also praised the U14s for almost defeating Bundaberg at home, which would have been “a cracking” win.

South Burnett U14s coach Adam Kratzmann said there was some “very serious talent” coming through the junior teams.

Wondai Wolves’ Torren Anderton was named the South Burnett Player of the Year and the Wooroolin Warriors were presented with the “Spirit of the Game” shield.

The Umpire’s Player of the Year, Nathan Roderick, and Goodchild Shield Player of the Year and Players’ Player Michael Wostear were not available as they were playing in the Gympie A Grade Two-Day Grand Final in Gympie.

Wondai Wolves’ Torren Anderton was presented with the SBCA trophies for Player of the Year and Best Bowling Aggregate (27 wickets)
Nanango Scorpions’ Lochlan Burrows received the SBCA trophy for Best Batting Aggregate … 733 runs
Tingoora Vikings’ Tavis Hartwig received the SBCA trophy for Best Batting Average … 167.67
