Residents have been invited to help paint six mural panels on Saturday in Kingaroy as part of the South Burnett Regional Council’s Harmony Week celebrations.

The six 1.5m x 1.2m canvas panels feature designs by Tingoora artist Robyn Dower.

The would-be artists will be invited to fill-in the designs using paint and paint brushes supplied by Council.

This is the first time the SBRC has celebrated Harmony Week.

Activities will kick off at 10:00am on Saturday (March 25) in the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt and will run until 2:00pm.

As well as the painting project, there will be live entertainment by the Wakka Wakka dancers and performances from members of the Solomon, Kiribati, Fijian and Samoan communities.

The musicians from Rockin’ Our Abilities and the South Burnett Orchestra will also be performing.

Cr Danita Potter said the event would showcase the spirit of inclusiveness in the region.

“We want to celebrate Harmony Day and show a sense of belonging for everyone,” Cr Potter said.

“Our event is to remind the community why our cultural diversity is one of South Burnett’s greatest assets and we are stronger because of it.

“We want everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, to come along and have fun and appreciate that our differences make our community a great place to live.”

The activities are being funded through the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program.
