Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has written to Transport Minister Mark Bailey to find out when the New England Highway roadworks between Cooyar and Coalbank will eventually be finished.

Mrs Frecklington said she had received many complaints about why the timeframe for completion had been extended to July 2023.

“The roadworks have been underway since May 2021, and I think the community have been very patient given there are four sets of traffic lights between Cooyar and Coalbank and substantial delays.

“I think it is only fair to ask why the deadline for completion has been changed to July 2023.

“The roadworks signage has been changed to completion date of ‘July 2023’, whereas previously the sign had stated ‘July 2022’. The TMR website has a completion date of March 2023.

“The community have also highlighted their concerns about road users being directed by Google maps to bypass the roadworks by using the East Cooyar Road. In the past 12 months there have been six rollovers on the unsealed sections of this road.

“Given these valid concerns, I have asked the Minister for some clarification about this extension and a firm date for when the works will be completed.”
