South Burnett cricketers – both junior and senior – have a big weekend ahead of them, including the final of the prestigious Goodchild Shield competition.

Some of the region’s youngest cricketers, the stars of the future, will be travelling to Gayndah on Saturday to take on North Burnett sides in Stage 1 and Stage 2 games,

The three matches will be kicking off at 9:00am and play will continue to 12:30pm.

This is the first time these fixtures have been played for years, promising a positive future for cricket in the Burnett and Wide Bay region.

There’s something special planned for the older Stage 3 cricketers, too, with their match scheduled to be played on a grass pitch at Wondai.

South Burnett junior cricketers will also be in action on Sunday in Bundaberg with U12s, U14s and U16s representative teams playing Bundaberg sides in the Wide Bay Intercity Challenge.

The South Burnett’s senior cricketers will be chasing glory on Sunday in the final of the Goodchild Shield final at Murgon Showgrounds.

Selected for the South Burnett are Michael Wostear (c), Ashley Sippel (vc), Tyler Heness, Trent Riddell, Brenton Polzin, Jared Sippel, Nathan Roderick, Nicholas Sanewski, Harry Sippel, Tom Currin, Zac Dann, Joseph Steinhardt and Jake Sippel.

This is a rematch of last year’s final in which the South Burnett was defeated by Bundaberg, so the local players will be keen for revenge.
