The Bell Art Group has won a Western Downs Regional Council 2023 Australia Day award.
The group, founded in 1965, took out the Jandowae & District Local Creative Arts Award.
The artists are based at the Bell Bunya Community Centre where they hold regular workshops and painting days.
The Bluebelles Art Gallery, also located in the community centre, is managed and supported by the group.
The Bell Art Group award was one of 24 Australia Day Local Awards announced by the WDRC late last week.
Mayor Paul McVeigh said the awards recognised excellence in local towns in the areas of sport, creative arts, volunteering and community organisations.
“It’s the people that make it on the Western Downs, and we are so excited to publicly recognise these unsung community legends as part of our Australia Day festivities next week,” he said.
WDRC’s Regional Citizen of the Year and Young Regional Citizen of the Year will be announced on January 26.
