The generosity of Murgon residents has been celebrated at the opening of the new Community Health building in Murgon.

A $250,000 donation from local resident Col Pearen and his family helped to fund the transformation of the former hospital staff quarters.

Acting Director Nursing and Midwifery South Burnett Sharon Shelswell said the region could be proud of the updated facility.

“It’s incredible to think about the impact that this donation will have on the community for generations to come,” Ms Shelswell said.

“We know that hospitals are often the cornerstones of their community and Murgon is no different.”

The upgrades mean the building will become a hub for allied health services and other medical professions.

The opening ceremony on Tuesday was carried out by Darling Downs Health Chief Executive Annette Scott PSM and Board Member Cheryl Dalton.

It was also an opportunity to recognise a number of other people and organisations in the community, including Murgon Hospital Auxiliary which is celebrating 25 years.

The Murgon and District Services and Citizens Club, Murgon Rotary, Murgon RSL Sub-Branch and members of the Smith family were also acknowledged for their contributions to a number of projects.

Mrs Dalton said it was wonderful to come together as a community to celebrate the huge difference kindness can make.

“This type of local support absolutely characterises our rural and regional communities,” she said.

“Everyone has played an important role in helping to make these projects such a success.”
