Renee Irvine took two wickets for Murgon in their game against Warriors last Saturday

Ladder leaders Murgon continued their unbeaten run in the 40-over South Burnett Senior cricket competition at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy last Saturday.

The visitors downed Wooroolin Warriors by 18 runs.

Murgon won the toss and batted first, and were all out for 151 in the 34th over.

Opener Joe Meikle (42) led the way with the bat.

Adam Kratzmann scored a quick-fire 33 to add to the total.

Jackson Kerkow (3/20 off four overs) and Paul Clegg (2/17 off four) were Warrior’s best bowlers.

In reply, Warriors were 133 all out in the 38th over.

James Whiteman (49) and Paul Clegg (28) were Warrior’s best batters.

Andrew Roderick (3/20 off five) and Renee Irvine (2/20 off eight) were Murgon’s best bowlers.

  • Nanango Yellow (3/127) defeated Kingaroy Services Orange (114 all out) by seven wickets at Alan Downie Sports Fields,  Nanango.

Kingaroy won the toss and elected to bat but were all out in the 31st over.

Justin Labinsky (29) and Ryan Jacobs (47) were the top scorers.

Jay Steinhardt (5/3 off 5.5 overs including two maidens) and Michael English (2/12 off four) were deadly for Nanango.

Nanango overcame the target in just 17 overs.

Joe Steinhardt (44 n/o) and Ben Greenslade (43) top-scored.

Sam Wilson (2/21 off four) and Sam Scott (1/23 off three) were Kingaroy’s best bowlers.

  • Tingoora Vikings (7/153) defeated Wondai (145 all out) by eight runs in a keenly contested game at Wondai Cricket Ground.

Vikings won the toss and batted first.

Tavis Hartwig (45 n/o) and Keegan Wright (27) top scored.

Lyndon Hopkins (3/19 off six) and Torren Anderton (2/23 off eight) were best with the ball.

In reply, Lyndon Hopkins hit 75 runs, including eight boundaries, off 63 balls for Wondai and Chatur Zala added 24, but it wasn’t enough.

Keegan Wright (3/21 off eight) and Jason Reilly (2/15 off eight) were Tingoora’s best bowlers.

  • Nanango Purple (7/168) defeated Kingaroy Services Blue (166 all out) by three wickets at Taabinga State School.

Kingaroy won the toss and batted first.

Trevor Black (89 n/o) and Glenn Kelly (27) were Kingaroy’s top scorers.

Simon Morrow (3/21 off eight) and Abby Burrows (2/34 off eight) were Nanango’s best bowlers.

In reply, Nanango chased down the target in the 35th over.

Lochlan Burrows (63 off 64 balls) and Lachlan Cullen (43 n/o) hit the key runs.

Joshua Fearby (2/23 off eight) and Archie Black (1/9 off three overs) were Kingaroy’s best bowlers.

Matches to be played in Gympie were abandoned.

The two local teams in the competition will be in action in the South Burnett this weekend.

Goodchild Shield

South Burnett (177 all out) defeated Gympie (158 all out) by 19 runs in the 50-over Goodchild Shield game played at Lyle Vidler Oval on Sunday.

The win should secure South Burnett a place in the Shield final to be played next year.

South Burnett’s next game will be played against Bundaberg in Bundaberg on January 22, which will determine which team hosts the final.

South Burnett won the toss on Sunday and batted first.

Ashley Sippel top scored with 35 runs, followed by Brenton Polzin (32) and Michael Wostear (22).

South Burnett then bowled out Gympie in the 35th over.

Kieran Askin (3/11 off three overs), Tyler Heness (2/18 off four) and Tom Currin (2/20 off four) did the damage.

Brenton Polzin also took three catches.

Round 2 of the Wide Bay Intercity Challenge was played at One Mile Oval in Gympie on Sunday.

  • Under 12s – South Burnett (152 all out) defeated Gympie (107 all out) by 45 runs.

Joe Carney (44 n/o) was the top scorer for South Burnett.

South Burnett’s best bowlers were Jamie Sherwell (2/4) and Darcy Harmsworth (2/15).

  • Under 14s – Gympie (3/183) defeated South Burnett (5/179) by seven wickets.

Josh Williams (56 n/o) and Isaac Hauritz (30 n/o) batted well for South Burnett.

Levi Steinhardt (1/10) and Josh Steinhardt (1/14) were the pick of the South Burnett bowlers.

  • Under 16s – South Burnett (4/233) defeated Gympie (110 all out) by 123 runs.

James Whiteman (61) and Braidyn Scott (37 n/o) top scored for South Burnett.

Tom Town (4/18), James Whiteman (2/4) and Noah Birch (1/13) were best with the ball for South Burnett.

NB.  Abby Burrows, Lachlan Cullen, Joshua Fearby and Joe Steinhardt agreed to play for Gympie to ensure a game.
