Trevor Stead will be representing the South Burnett at Toastmasters’ divisional competition after acing the competition in Maryborough at the weekend.

For the second year in a row, Trevor won the International Speech contest at the area competition, which was held at St Paul’s Memorial Hall.

He also notched up second places in the Table Topics and Evaluation contests.

Another South Burnett Toastmasters’ member, Leonie McGregor, picked up a third in the Humorous Speech contest.

Trevor will now compete in the International Speech contest at the Central Division (Rockhampton to North Brisbane) final which will be held in March next year.

The winner at this event will go on to compete at the Australasian final.

Trevor said the the International Speech contest was a five to seven-minute speech on any subject.

He gets to choose the topic.

“Speech contests are a Toastmasters’ tradition,” Trevor said.

“Each year, thousands of Toastmasters compete in the Humorous, Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics and International speech contests.

“Competition begins with club contests, and winners continue competing through the Area, Division and District levels.”

The South Burnett club held its local competition in August.

Trevor said South Burnett members meet at the Kingaroy RSL on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of every month.

All guests are welcome.
