One of the highlights of the recent BaconFest weekend was “PigJam”, a battle of the bands competition held in Kingaroy’s O’Neill Square on the Saturday night.

The event was the brainchild of the recently formed South Burnett Youth Council.

It was the group’s first major project and they handled all the organisation and promotion (with some help from the South Burnett Regional Council’s Margie Hams and Cr Danita Potter).

The competition was open to musicians aged from 12 to 25, with an eventual line up of 10 bands.

Guest band, “Without a Doubt”, also performed.

Kingaroy band “Sparrow” took out first place performing three rock classics, including Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine”.

Their prize included a cheque and the opportunity to play live on air at CROW-FM.

Blackbutt band “Savage Black”, featuring family members Terra, Jonnie and Cooper Savage, just missed out on the top spot.

Gayndah bands took out third and fourth spots.
