EARLIER:

Police have launched a search and rescue operation for a missing 84-year-old man and his two dogs.

David John Grimes was last seen at his home on Penwhaupell Road, north-west of Booubyjan, on Monday at 1:00pm.

He is about 175cm tall, of slight build, dark eyes with grey thinning hair.

Police and family believe Mr Grimes left his home to walk his two Jack Russell Terriers to an area known as Back Creek, however he failed to return that evening.

Concerns are held due to his age and medical conditions.

Police along with neighbours, family and friends conducted an immediate search of the area using quad bikes, motorbikes and foot patrols.

A multi-agency operation involving police, QFES and SES, helicopter including Polair and Hervey Bay Water Police searching creeks along the boundary of the property has so far failed to locate the missing man.

The search is expected to resume on Wednesday with Dive Squad officers and SES volunteers.

Anyone who may have information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
