A long-standing sporting record at Kingaroy State School was recently broken by talented young sports star, Savannah Rose.

Savannah cleared the high jump at 1.03m, breaking the 9 years girls record set by “R. Arrell” in 2003.

Savannah was congratulated on her effort by past student, shot put and long jump record holder Tammy Moss who was in attendance to cheer on her own children, one of whom was named aged champion on the day.

Before Savannah’s outstanding result, the last record to be broken at the school was by former student Josh Freeman in the 9 years boys high jump back in 2016.

The years between breaking these records show how special Savannah’s jump was at the recent carnival.

Savannah went on to be the 9 year old girls champion of the carnival.

The longest-standing athletics records still waiting to be broken at Kingaroy State School were set in 1982 by “A. Andrea” in the 12 years girls 200m sprint and “M. Protheroe” in the 11 years boys 800m sprint and boys 200m sprint.

Medals were awarded to all the age champions at the end on the carnival … from left, Bryansen Phillips-Petersen, Alexis T, Seth Hicks, Jameliah Langton, Seth Wairau, Nellie Grahame, Savannah Rose and Sonny Wairau (Photo: Glenis Miller)
