Visiting tutor Jeff Jarratt shared his skills with the SBCO’s percussion section

An “orchestral jazz” workshop kept members of the South Burnett Community Orchestra busy at the weekend as they practised under the eyes of specialist tutors.

The orchestra was split into three parts for the workshop, held at the Kingaroy Uniting Church in Alford Street on Saturday.

Visiting tutor Rohan Hardy put the woodwind section through their paces, while Jeff Jarratt led the percussionists.

Orchestra conductor Jo Kennedy led the strings.

In the afternoon, the three sections came together to test their new skills in combination.

The SBCO plans to perform their new jazz works at their end-of-year concert, which will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:30pm on November 19.

This concert will also feature excerpts from “My Fair Lady” and an Elvis Presley tribute.

The workshop was funded by the South Burnett Regional Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

This concert, which will be held from 3:00pm on June 26, will feature music from the stage and screen as well as classic rock.

Tickets can be bought at Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, or from the SBCO website
