An empty shop at the corner of Bligh and Park streets in Kilkivan could soon be joined by a cafe, retail store, shed and car park if Gympie Regional Council agrees to a developer’s proposal

A new cafe and retail shop will be built in Kilkivan if Gympie Regional Council approves the project.

The Council is currently assessing a development application for 6 Bligh Street (Wide Bay Highway) from Glen Echo MX Pty Ltd which was submitted on April 24.

The application covers a large triangular parcel of land located at the corner of Bligh and Park streets, diagonally opposite the Kilkivan Hotel.

At present, the site is home to a single empty shop.

But the development application proposes adding two buildings to the site. One would be a split cafe and retail premises fronting Bligh Street, with outdoor and footpath dining options.

The other would be a shed at the rear which would be used by the block’s tenants.

The development will also create a nine-space car park on the north-eastern end of the lot – accessed from Park Street – which will include two spaces for staff.

The developers propose leaving the original building as it is but plan to build a concrete footpath to connect the buildings.
