Blue Care has won a $55 million State Government tender to deliver palliative care across nine hospital and health service regions in regional Queensland.

The Darling Downs and the Wide Bay health service regions are among the recipients.

“This funding will provide better access to palliative care throughout regional Queensland,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“It will also ensure that more Queenslanders can spend what precious time they have left in a comfortable, familiar environment close to family and friends.”

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the $55 million would fund new community-based palliative care initiatives to increase home-based and after-hours care.

“We want to ensure Queenslanders can exercise genuine choice at end of life and die with dignity,” Ms D’Ath said.

Services will commence in early October.
