The Burrandowan Picnic Race Club will be holding its special Centenary Race Meeting at the Burrandowan Racecourse, 66km west of Kingaroy, on Saturday (May 7).

Crowds have been gathering at Burrandowan on the second Saturday in May since 1922 to take in the atmosphere of a bush picnic race meeting.

Organisers are hoping for a bumper turnout on Saturday, which will also include the launch of a special book tracing the history of the races.

The annual meeting generates funds for worthy causes and many food and drink outlets on the course are run by local service clubs to assist their own community projects.

Buses will be running from Kingaroy at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm, and camping is available at the track for Saturday night.

Racing begins at 1:30pm and there’s a five-race card.

After the last race is run, the course’s pit-fired barbecue will light up and there’ll be live entertainment from Ryza that will run until late into the night.

Patrons are reminded there are no ATMs and no mobile coverage at the track, so they should bring cash.

Entry to this year’s meeting is $25 per head (plus booking fee) and tickets can be booked online.
