The Wondai Wolves, who have been showing strong form in pre-season games, tested the Stags during the first 40 minutes and were leading at half-time

April 29, 2022

It must be rugby league season … it rained on and off all day, and as night fell the chill set in at Stags Oval for Round 1 of the South Burnett competition last Saturday.

But the Nanango club was rewarded for hosting the full round of games from Under 6s through to A Grade with good crowds and two good wins for their teams.

In Under 16s, Nanango defeated their arch-rivals Kingaroy 16-10 in a close game.

In A Grade, the Stags held off a rampaging Wondai to record a 26-14 win over the in-form Wolves, after Wondai led 10-8 at half-time.

Three Toowoomba junior rugby league games were also played, with the South Burnett Eagles taking on Highfields in Under 15s, Under 16s and Under 17s.

The Under 15s were triumphant, scoring a hard-fought victory 14-10.

There are no senior games being played in the South Burnett this weekend due to players fulfilling 47th Battalion duties in Gladstone, however a full round of junior games will be played at Ian “Bunny” Pearce Oval in Blackbutt.
