South Burnett McGrath Breast Care Nurse Sue Cox chatted with Judy Forster from the Nanango RSL Auxiliary before the Cent Auction got underway … in all, the event raised more than $3200 in a couple of hours

A Saturday morning cent auction to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation has proven that Nanango’s community spirit is still strong, despite two years of tough pandemic restrictions and recent flooding.

The auction was held at Taras Hall recently to raise funds for the South Burnett’s McGrath Breast Care Nurse Sue Cox, and it was supported by 24 businesses (22 of them based in Nanango) along with four Nanango community groups.

Together, these sponsors offered bidders a raft of genuinely worthwhile prizes to try for.

Prizes were supplied by Brisbane Logistics, Nanango Pharmacy, Evolution Hair Studio, Nanango Spare Parts, Sushi Yum Yum, Katies Barber Shop, Hairdo4U, Darren The Peanut Man, Red’s Fish and Chips, Crusty’s Pizza, Nanango Motors, Nanango Post Office, Nanango Hardware, Nanango Gas Supplies, KK’s Cafe, Yap Yap Landscaping, Nanango RSL, Fitzroy Hotel, Nanango Tank Makers, Flemings Garage, Nanango Real Estate, Nanango Discount Drug Store, Bowerbird Heaven and Tyre Power Kingaroy.

And the event was assisted with support from Nanango’s Craft Ladies, members of the Nanango Cancer Group, Nanango Hospital staff and members of Nanango RSL’s Auxiliary.

Organiser Judy Forster said she was extremely grateful for the support shown by local businesses, especially considering that they have just weathered a particularly tough couple of years.

But she was touched by their generosity, which saw Nanango rated as “the most generous town in Queensland per capita” by the Australian Tax Office in 2014.

In all, Judy said the auction raised $3212 for the McGrath Foundation.

This money will be used to help fund Sue Cox’s role, which delivers support to South Burnett women as they undergo treatment for cancer.

Judy’s next organised event will be the Nanango RSL Auxiliary’s annual Spring Cent Auction, which will be held at Taras Hall on Saturday, September 3rd.
