Sunday’s horrific crash on Barkers Creek Flat is not only a tragedy for the families involved – and emergency services workers – but has also created a headache for South Burnett Regional Council.
The blue Commodore snapped a pole in half and also smashed equipment used to pump water to Nanango.
A Council spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that one of the three bores which supply water to Nanango was damaged in the crash.
However, Council has assured Nanango residents the town’s water supply is secure.
“Investigations are ongoing in co-operation with Council’s insurers,” the spokesperson said.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fatal crash, in which a 31-year-old Nanango man and a 20-year-old Tara man died.
Initial investigations suggest the vehicle that crashed may have been chasing another vehicle however it is not believed to have been an incident of road rage.
