An elderly man was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Esk-Hampton Road at Ravensbourne on Sunday morning.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the fatal motorcycle crash which occurred about 8:30am.
Initial information suggests the 74-year-old man was riding a Triumph Thunderbird motorbike eastwards along the road when he struck an embankment.
One of his riding companions rendered immediate assistance and contacted police and emergency services, however the man died at the scene.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses, including anyone with dashcam vision or CCTV, to contact Police Link on 13-14-44.
He would have hated being called ‘elderly’… he was a young man in an old man’s body, he went out doing something he loved, forever rocking & riding! Much love always xoxo
My son was one of the other riders. He held the victim in very high regard, with them both being Kiwis by birth. My very sincere condolences to his family. So very sad. 💐💐
