Mining billionaire Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest has lifted his stake in Bega Cheese, owners of the Peanut Company of Australia.

On March 7, Dr Forrest and his Tattarang AgriFood Investments Pty Ltd bought just over 7.2 million Bega shares for $35.1 million.

This raised his stake in Bega from 6.51 per cent to 9.00 per cent.

Last December, Tattarang bought more than 20 million shares in Bega for about $108 million, making Dr Forrest the company’s fourth largest shareholder.

In February, Dr Forrest spent $35 million buying more than 5 per cent of Australia’s largest beef producer, Australian Agricultural Company.
