South Burnett Regional Council has advised that water in Barambah Creek at Ficks Crossing currently has a very high level of turbidity due to local flash flooding.

Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness of the water.

As the Wondai water supply scheme draws water from Ficks Crossing, this means the water supply for some residents may be discoloured.

A Council spokesperson said intermittent discolouring may last for the next two days or longer if further wet weather and flooding occurs.

The spokesperson said the water remained safe for residents but the impact of the interruption meant the treatment process was not currently operating at full capacity.

Residents have been urged to reduce water consumption where possible.

“Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your patience during this time,” the spokesperson said.

The wet weather has also affected the Kingaroy and Wondai waste facilities.

Both were closed on Wednesday to  ensure the safety of the community and Council workers.
