Joshua Fearby hit 34 very valuable runs for Kingaroy Services against Wondai last weekend

Rainstorms across the region played havoc with cricket games last weekend, with both junior and senior games washed out.

However, two South Burnett senior games managed to take to the pitch: Wondai v Kingaroy Services at Taabinga State School; and Murgon Diggers v Wooroolin Colts at Murgon State High School.

  • Wondai (8/165) defeated Kingaroy Services (8/164) by two wickets.

Services won the toss and batted first.

Top scorers were Sam Scott (36) and Joshua Fearby (34).

For Wondai, L. Burrows (3/32) and Jeremy Hobbs (1/6) were the pick of the bowlers.

Hobbs also starred with the bat for Wondai, finishing 62 not out.

Trevor Black took 1/24 and Clinton Blanch 1/14 for Services.

  • Murgon Diggers (3/350) defeated Wooroolin Colts (all out 116) by 234 runs at Murgon State High School

Adrian Webster (106 n/o), Riley Sippel (77 n/o),  Joe Meikle (68) and Lachlan Zelinksi (60) proved too strong.

However Colts’ bowler Roger Hoare put in a strong performance, taking 2/19 off his five overs, including opener Meikle.

In reply, James Whiteman (27 n/o), Clinton Zemek (17) and Terry Forbes (16) made the runs for Colts.

For Diggers, Troy Litzow (3/23) and Jake Sippel (2/16) did the damage.

Goodchild Shield

  • Round 1 of the prestigious four-way Goodchild Shield Competition will be played this weekend.

The competition tests senior teams from the South Burnett, Gympie, Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.

A South Burnett XI will take on Bundaberg on Sunday at Lyle Vidler Oval.
