A fire in a coal feeder at Tarong Power Station had emergency services scrambling on Tuesday night.

Seven fire crews were called about 11:25pm to the complex and worked alongside Stanwell operations staff to control the flames.

A QFES spokesperson said the fire was fully extinguished by 5:00am.

The QFES firefighters left the site about 5:20am.

QAS paramedics also responded and remained on standby, but were not required.

A Stanwell spokesperson said six coal pulverisers service the Tarong and Tarong North power stations.

These pulverisers are each supplied with coal from a 500 tonne bunker, delivered via a coal feeder.

The small fire occurred inside one of these coal feeders, which was not in use at the time.

“No one was injured in the incident and there has been no serious damage to the power station plant and no impact to security of supply,” the spokesperson said.
