A Gold Coast company has been fined $50,000 after a worker suffered critical injuries in a workplace incident at Kumbia in December 2019.

Soko Construction and Roofing Pty Ltd had been contracted to replace the roofs on two sheds on the property.

Southport Magistrates Court was told one of the workers accidentally stepped on a polycarbonate skylight sheet on December 2 and fell 4.8m on to a concrete floor.

He suffered a fractured skull and brain injuries and was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Soko was charged with failing to implement appropriate control measures to eliminate or minimise the risk of a worker falling.

No conviction was recorded.
