South Burnett Regional Council is in the process of setting up a Youth Council as part of its Corporate Plan.

Cr Danita Potter told last week’s Community Standing Committee Meeting the Youth Council would provide a unique experience for participants.

“And I hope (it will be) an eye-opening exercise for councillors, staff and residents of the South Burnett,” she said.

Cr Potter said the Youth Council would be an ongoing institution.

“Youth in our community need to have a say about the future of the South Burnett,” she said.

“They are our next generation of councillors, mayors, CEOs, managers, town planners, engineers, administration officers, librarians, gardeners, mechanics, graziers … and the list goes on.”

Terms of reference are being drawn up.

Cr Potter said she expected a vote to form the Youth Council would be conducted at the next General Meeting of Council.
