The first ball bowled at Lyle Vidler Oval in the 2021-22 cricket season … Michael Wostear in action for Wooroolin

Senior cricketers took to Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday for the first time during the 2021-22 cricket season.

Wooroolin Warriors defeated Murgon Crusaders in their Round 1 40-over Gympie Cricket Association A Grade game.

Murgon won the toss and batted first, and were all out for 121 in the 26th over.

Ashley Sippel top-scored with 54.

In reply, Wooroolin overtook the Murgon target, finishing 5/128.

The two local teams in the Gympie competition will be in action again next Saturday:

  • Wooroolin v Gympie Colts at Gympie’s Spencer Oval
  • Murgon v Gympie Royals at Murgon Sportsground

The South Burnett Senior Cricket competition will start on October 2, and the Junior competition on October 9.

Several South Burnett players took part in a Round 2 Lord Taverners Under 16s game played at Fehlberg Park in Yeronga on Sunday.

Nathan Roderick, Joe Steinhardt and Tom Currin turned out for Wide Bay against South Brisbane in the 50-over game.

South Brisbane batted first and were all out for 184 in the last over.

Roderick took 1/19 off 10 overs and Steinhardt 1/21 off six while Currin took two catches.

In reply, Wide Bay fell short, 8/134 at the end of their 50 overs.

Steinhardt was not out 16.

Wide Bay’s Round 3 game will be played on September 19 against Wynnum-Manly at Maryborough.

NB. In the Round 1 game, played on September 5. Wide Bay (178) defeated Toombul (10/118).
