Cherbourg Mayor Elvie Sandow is happy that more than 300 people received a COVID vaccination at the special “super clinic” set up on Tuesday, but she hopes even more will turn up today and tomorrow.

The clinic, being run by Darling Downs Health, is offering Pfizer vaccinations, and will be running from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the Cherbourg Hall on Wednesday and Thursday.

Eligible people should bring along ID, their Medicare card and a pen.

Mayor Sandow said the super clinic had been “going really good”.

Of the 306 people vaccinated on Tuesday, about 100 were Cherbourg residents – and Mayor Sandow is urging more to come down to the hall today.

“If we are going to beat this virus, you have to get vaccinated,” she said.

The Mayor said she was not concerned that people from other parts of the South Burnett were also coming along.

She said other people visited Cherbourg, and Cherbourg residents – may of whom had underlying health issues – were also out and about elsewhere.

“We only need to have one case in this community and it will wipe our community out,” she said.

“We all live in this area.”

Mayor Sandow said all the Cherbourg councillors had been vaccinated, and she was encouraging Council’s workforce to also get vaccinated.

“We are leading by example,” she said.

Mayor Sandow said Cherbourg residents did not want to have to face another lockdown, such as the community endured last year with checkpoints on the main road.

“Not at all. That creates a lot of social issues, our suicide rate,” she said.

Mayor Sandow said the Cherbourg community should be very glad the super clinic was available and people could just walk in.

“Down in Brisbane, people are lining up and waiting for hours,” she said.

“Our people have got to take advantage of it. We have had Pfizer delivered to our doorstep.

“We even have free coffee, free burgers and raffles going!”

UPDATE 3:30pm:  Darling Downs Health says there are plenty of appointments available at the Cherbourg COVID-19 Pfizer vaccination clinic this afternoon (Wednesday). The clinic is open until 4:30pm so eligible South Burnett residents who would like to receive the vaccine are encouraged to attend.

One Response to "Come On Down To Super Clinic: Mayor"

  1. I took Mayor Sandow’s advice and went along to Cherbourg on Wednesday to get my first vaccination shot. The clinic was very professionally run and I was in and out within an hour, including the paperwork (one form, two sides).

I didn’t take advantage of the free burgers but I’m very grateful to both Mayor Sandow and the Darling Downs Health Service for arranging this clinic and I’d encourage anyone – Cherbourg resident or not – to go there for a Pfizer jab. The sooner we’re all vaccinated the sooner we can get back to normal life.
