Gympie residents will soon be able to ask Mayor Glen Hartwig about anything that’s on their minds and get an answer in less than 90 seconds.

The questions will be passed on to the Mayor in a new, bi-monthly “Ask The Mayor” question and answer session that will be videoed and broadcast on the GRC’s Facebook page.

Mayor Hartwig said “Ask The Mayor” was the latest “transparency initiative” his Council was rolling out.

The aim of the Q&A was to encourage greater community involvement and reduce any misinformation circulating in the region.

“I encourage all residents to submit a question, no matter how big or small,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“Now’s your chance to ask me anything – rates, roads or what I had for breakfast … go for gold!”

Mayor Hartwig said he won’t see the questions beforehand but would try to answer as many as possible within the 90 second video window.

“So no frills, no long-winded explanations, just straightforward honest answers,” he said.

“Ask The Mayor” submissions can be made online or in person, but all questions will be anonymous.

A question submission box will be located at the Customer Service desk at Gympie Town Hall for personal submissions, and online questions can be submitted in future through Gympie Regional Council’s website.
