Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died in a fiery crash on the Wide Bay Highway at Kilkivan in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 31-year-old woman, from Sexton, was the only occupant of the vehicle.

She died at the scene.

A police spokesperson said early investigations indicated the woman’s SUV failed to negotiate a bend, left the highway and crashed into a tree.

Police were called to the scene at 2:19am after reports a vehicle was on fire.

The Wide Bay Highway was closed to through traffic while emergency services were at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

A second woman died in a crash in the local region on Saturday.

The 39-year-old died after single-vehicle traffic crash in Coominya about 11:00am.

A police spokesperson said the woman was travelling south on Cloake Street when her vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
