Barry Lonsdale’s Discount Drug Store pharmacy in Nanango is one of the first chemist shops across Queensland given the green light to administer a COVID-19 vaccine.
And since the pharmacy started administering the AstraZeneca vaccine on June 14, at least 340 people have taken the opportunity to receive the free immunisation at the Fitzroy Street store.
Barry said extending the rollout to pharmacies had been needed because many people had been facing delays in getting vaccinated.
“This is making it easier for people to get it,” he said.
“As soon as we can get a large part of the population vaccinated we can get out of this crisis.”
Over 60s are invited to book in for a vaccination shot by phoning the Discount Drug Store pharmacy on (07) 4163-1631.
The store will also book in the second shot for 12 weeks later.
The Discount Drug Store in Nanango is the first chemist in the South Burnett to administer the shots – and one of the first 49 in Queensland – but it won’t be the last.
More pharmacies will be coming on line over the next couple of weeks, including Barry’s other store in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy.
